Staying Motivated to Exercise
In this article I will focus on how to get motivated to start a real exercising plan and stick to it. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not an expert! I am writing this article just as much for my own good. I will try to follow the advice I am giving. The advice are some that I found by researching the net. I picked and chose the advice that I liked, and that have been working for me. I do what I think is fun – swimming – and I manage to do it two or three times a week. Hopefully what has worked for me will also work for you.
Start today
There is no perfect time to start exercising. “I’ll start on monday” is a silly excuse – why monday? Today is just as good. Actually, I am just promising myself, that when I’m done with this article, I’ll go for a swim in the local indoor swimming pool.
Start nice and slowly
I’ve discovered that if I start with expecting too much of myself, because I feel really motivated at that time, I lose interest and motivation pretty fast. So this advice sounds reasonable, and actually, it has already worked for me. And for now, I just continue nice and slowly. I’m afraid that if I speed up, I’ll get tired of it. And I rather keep doing it slowly than not doing it all.
Read about your kind of exercise
Borrow some books from the library or read about your sport on the Internet. It will help you stay motivated. Hopefully.
Vary your routine
Vary your scenery or try a new variation of your favorite activity. Variety is the spice of life!
Make the exercise part of your life
Tell everyone that you started exercising. Find a exercise companion, to keep you motivated. This could be your biggest weapon in losing weight!
Be realistic
If you try too hard and set unrealistic goals for yourself, the risk of failure will be higher. Have small, realistic goals to keep you going. If you still find this hard to stick to, hire a professional to help you keep on track. That’s what they get paid to do and they do it well!
Reward Yourself
After a week of exercise, reward yourself with a professional body massage or something similar.
The exercising will easier become a good habit if you stay motivated. The most important motivating factor that I keep reading about, is not to pressure yourself too hard in the beginning. It’s important that you don’t experience your exercise as something negative. It has to be something that will put you in a good mood. I’ve found my favorite activity for now to be swimming. I’ve been doing it for about a couple of months now and am still motivated. Hopefully it will last!
